
Force brings golden performer to Convo

CLEVELAND, OHIO- What does playing in every minute of every game of three World Cups and two Olympics translate into? U.S. Women's National Team defender Joy Fawcett. Joy will be at Cleveland Force game versus the two-time defending Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Champion Baltimore Blast on Sunday, January 16th as part of the Girl Scouts of America day with the Force.
Fawcett, a two-time gold medallist, World Cup Champion and the highest scoring defender in U.S. Women's National Team history with 26 goals, is a key component of the U.S. Women's National Team growth in popularity and success. Fun and excitement are planned for the day when U.S. Women's National team meets one of the most historic MISL teams, the Cleveland Force. Pre-Game and Game Activities will include:
· Girl Scout Clinic
· Pre-Game VIP Meet and Greet
· Pre-Game In House Video Board Interview
· Team Introductions and First Ball
· Autograph session on main concourse
· Halftime soccer game with Mayfield Soccer Club and Interview on WHKW 1420 AM
In addition to her stellar career on the national level, Joy was a founding player of the San Diego Spirit of the WUSA. She was selected as the WUSA Defender of the Year, first-team All-WUSA and starter to the WUSA All-Star Team in 2003.
During her collegiate years, Fawcett was a three-time All-American at the University of California, Berkley. She is the all-time leader points in UC Berkley history with 133 on 55 goals and 23 assists. Joy helped lead Cal to a third place finish in the 1987 and 1988 National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) tournament. Fawcett was inducted into the UC Berkeley Hall of Fame in October of 1997.
