Force Adds Three More Players To Roster

CLEVELAND, OHIO- Cleveland Force President and General Manager Paul Garofolo today announced that the team has signed forward Steve Butcher, forward and first round draft pick Anthony Maher and midfielder Guiliano Oliviero to contracts.

Butcher, 24, who was selected in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Dispersal Draft after playing two seasons for the Buffalo Blizzard, has signed a new two-year contract. Last season for the Cleveland, Butcher appeared in 27 games and recorded 27 goals and seven assists for a total of 63 points. In two years at Buffalo, Butcher recorded 20 goals and added 11 assists for a total of 54 points.

Maher, 23, who was Cleveland's first round draft pick in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) College Draft out of Mercyhurst College in Pennsylvania, signed a two-year contract. In his final season at Mercyhurst, Maher was named the team captain, first-team All-American, first-team All-Region and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year. Anthony led the Lakers in goals (24) and assists (15) and finished second in NCAA Division II in points with 63. Maher finished his career at Mercyhurst as the leader in career points and goals. Maher spent this summer playing for the Wilmington Hammerheads of the D3 Pro League. While at Wilmington, Maher recorded 14 goals and added one assist as well as being named the United Soccer League Player of the Week on two occasions

Oliviero, 28, who was drafted by Cleveland in the 2001 MISL Dispersal Draft after playing one season with the Toronto Thunderhawks, signed a new two-year contract. Last season with Cleveland, Oliviero appeared in 37 games and posted 31 goals adding 22 assists for a total of 85 points, which was good enough for third on the team. In his previous six seasons in the league, Guiliano has posted 194 goals and added 173 assists for a total of 574 points. He was named to the NPSL All-Star Game as a member of the Toronto Thunderhawks and was runner-up for the National Professional Soccer League's (NPSL) Rookie of the Year in the 1995-96 season.
