Columbus Wardogs News Release

Columbus, GA - From slapping high-fives to fans after sacking a quarterback, to dying his hair orange (which he did last season), Wardogs player Darin Damron has always been a little different. So when the 6-foot-4, 280-pound lineman and his fiancée made their wedding plans, they opted not to have a traditional ceremony in a church, but to tie the knot at halftime of an arena football game.

The wedding between Damron, 23, and fiancée Heather Robinson, 24, will take place Saturday, May 10 on the football field inside the Columbus Civic Center during the Wardogs game against the Macon Knights.

While the bride will wear a traditional wedding gown during the ceremony, Damron will still be in his pads and uniform after playing in the first half. Pastor David Spiece from the Rose Hill Church of Christ will perform the nuptials. Several family members and friends will serve as bridesmaids and groomsmen.

Damron says there's a positive to getting married at halftime.

"I figure I'm going to be a little sweaty and smelly during the ceremony, so if she's still willing to marry me, then I know it's true love."

The event is believed to be the first time a professional football player actually got married in the middle of a game.

"Darin is the kind of guy who may have been hit a little too hard in the head without his helmet on," quipped Wardogs head coach John Fourcade. "But he'll always have a great story to tell about how he and Heather were married during a game."

Tickets for Saturday's game are available at any Ticketmaster outlet including the Columbus Civic Center Box Office, logging on to ticketmaster.com, or by calling Ticketmaster at 494-8330. For more information, log on to columbuswardogs.com.
