Albany Firebirds News Release
(ALBANY, NY) â Albany Conquest, defending Northeast Division Champions of arenafootball2, has announced a partnership with the labor unions of the Albany Capital region, to raise support for this year's annual, newly-renamed "Michael L. Burns Labor Parade." Until his death, Burns was the chairman of the Albany County Democratic Committee, and Business Manager for Iron Workers Local 12.
The Conquest are going to be honoring the local labor unions at their May 23rd home game against the Birmingham Steeldogs, at 7:30 PM, at the Pepsi Arena. Any of the Albany area's quarter million union members can purchase discount-priced tickets through their participating unions. Additionally, proceeds from every ticket sold will be donated to support the Labor Day Parade, to be held in September.
Conquest General Manager Rob Thompson recently spoke about the partnership at a union breakfast at Albany Municipal Golf Course.
"It is great to have the support of our local union brothers and sisters," Thompson commented. "Albany is a labor town. You are the people who built this city and the ones who keep it running day in and day out. This is just our way of saying âthank you' to your members in our special Conquest way."
Joe Battaglino, Chairman of the Labor Parade Committee, said, "We very much appreciate what the Conquest is doing for labor, by having this special night for us. And we thank them for their generous contribution of $2 from each ticket sold, to go to the annual Labor Parade. This kind of partnership shows that more and more community people and enlightened businessmen understand that âLabor' is not just âBig Labor' It's the little guy, the guy who picks up the garbage, who delivers the mail, who fixes the roads. Helping them helps us all."
The Parade Committee's Vice-Chairman, John Kearney, added, "The Labor Parade Committee is proud and pleased that the Conquest recognizes the importance of the labor community in the Capital region. We in turn salute the Conquest and wish them all the best. We're rooting for our newest home team."
