Raleigh Rebels News Release
RALEIGH NC - As final cuts were made in the Arena Football League this week prior to the regular season opener, at least one person was anxiously eyeing the transaction wire. Raleigh Rebels Head Coach Steven G. Folmar saw four of his former players from 2005 make the final cuts. "You are like a proud father when you see one of the guys you coached on the field, taking the next step" says Folmar.
After spending last season as the defensive coordinator for the Central Valley Coyotes (Fresno, CA) in the arena football league 2, Folmar took over the reigns of the Rebels on October 1st. "Coach B (Biletnikoff) did a great job of recruiting talented guys for that team. It is incredible for a minor league team to send that many guys to the next level. Freddie and I are both very proud of being associated with, and be able to coach, talented athletes like that."
Former Coyote FB/LB JaJuan Huddleston made the San Jose Sabercats, WR/DB Anthony Arceneaux was signed by the Las Vegas Gladiators, WR/LB George Williams will see action with the New York Dragons and OL/DL Ricky Gaspar will begin the 2006 AFL season on the practice squad of the Arizona Rattlers, where he will almost undoubtedly see action this season.
A fifth Coyote, QB Justin Wood, made the final roster of the New York Dragons as well. Two more Coyotes, FB/LB Vai Notoa (Utah) and OL/DL Oscar Grajeda (San Jose) were waived in the last round of cuts and could very well see action this season at a later date. Coach Folmar hopes that he can send some of the Rebels in that direction after the 2006 season. "That makes for a great recruiting tool. If players know that you are doing things to try and get guys to the next level then they will trust their futures with you."
