
Flying Tigers Beat Mets 5-1 in Series Opener

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Lakeland Flying Tigers won Tuesday's series opener vs. the St. Lucie Mets 5-1 at Clover Park.
Lakeland's Josh Crouch opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning. Ben Malgeri delivered a game-breaking blow to the Mets in the fifth inning when he hit a two-out, three-run double to put Lakeland up 4-0.
The Mets scored their only run of the game in the seventh inning when Omar De Los Santos stung a two-out single to bring home Justin Guerrera to trim the Mets deficit to 4-1.
Carlos Irigoyen added an insurance run for Lakeland with RBI single in the ninth for a 5-1 lead.
Lakeland starting pitcher Carlos Guzman (5-9) blanked the Mets over 6.0 innings. He scattered four hits, walked one and struck out six.
Mets starter Robert Colina (2-1) took a tough loss. He gave up just one earned run over 4.2 innings.
De Los Santos went 2 for 3 in the loss. Kevin Kendall was 2 for 4 with a double and a triple.
The Mets (55-51) and Flying Tigers (47-61) continue their series at Clover Park on Wednesday at 12:10 p.m.
