Central Illinois Flying Aces News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Central Illinois Flying Aces drop the final game of January against the Sioux Falls Stampede, 6 to 4.
The Flying Aces struck first 9:20 into the first after a face-off win from Trevor Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.). Ryan Siedem (Madison, NJ) gathered the puck off the draw and passed to Philippe Lapointe (Burr Ridge, Ill.). The Michigan commit one-timed the puck past the goaltender for his sixth goal with Central Illinois.
Andre Lee tied the game for Sioux Falls at 11:06 in the first. He gloved down a pass in the slot and scored on his backhand to tie the game.
Sioux Falls started the second period with two power play goals. The first came from Brian Chambers after he picked up the rebound from a shot from the point. Artem Ivanyuzhenkov scored the second after some quick passing resulted with him with the puck in the slot.
Stephen Halliday (Toronto, Ont.) made it a one-goal game at 8:25 in the second. John Driscoll (Littleton, Colo.) made a stretch pass from behind the Flying Aces goal line to Tyler Gratton (Pottstown, Penn.) in the neutral zone. Gratton found Halliday entering the offensive zone. Halliday displayed his strong skating as held off two Stampede defenders, circled around the back of the net, and put the puck over the goaltender's pad.
Anthony Romano scored for the Stampede at 11:35 in the second when he corralled the rebound from a shot that went off the end boards behind the net to restore the Sioux Falls two-goal lead.
Tate Singleton (West Lebanon, NH) stole the puck from a Sioux Falls player on the forecheck and wristed the puck into the back of the net for his seventh of the season.
The Flying Aces tied the game at 6:50 in the third on the power play. Cal Kiefiuk (Macomb, Mich.) attempted to pass down low, but his pass was blocked. Lapointe hustled to get the puck back and passed to Janicke on the backdoor. The captain buried his twelfth goal of the season.
The Stampede took the lead back at 7:59 in the third after a goal from Austen Swankler. They iced the game with an empty net goal from Ryan Sullivan for a final score of 6 to 4.
Tomorrow, the Flying Aces travel to Des Moines to face the Buccaneers. After this game, Central Illinois will have completed four of six away games in a row. The Flying Aces return home on Friday, February 15th for Special Olympics Night and Saturday, February 16th for Hockey Fights Cancer Night.
