Schaumburg Flyers News Release
Kansas City, KS - A wild game in Kansas City ended in a slugfest. The Schaumburg Flyers (9-13, 40-30) and Kansas City T-Bones (11-11, 33-37) combined for 29 hits with the T-Bones coming out on top 11-9.
A fourth inning bench-clearing brawl saw Rick DeHart and Josue Lopez ejected from the game along with Greg Jacobs and Charles Peterson of the T-Bones.
Trailing 5-1 in the 6th Ben Van Iderstine stepped up and delivered a 2-run blast in the sixth. Rob Marconi followed that up in the next inning with a game tying 2-run shot of his own.
After KC put up a run in the bottom of the seventh, Schaumburg retied the game in the eighth with an RBI single from Tim Marks that plated Nelson Gord. Rob Watson's triple off the wall in left-center scored Marks from first with the go ahead run.
Reliever Dan Jackson couldn't hold the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Jackson gave up 4 earned runs and 5 in all. T-Bone catcher Craig Hurba hit a grand slam to center to put his team up 11-7.
The Flyers brought the tying run to the plate twice in the ninth but their comeback bid fell short.
Schaumburg returns home to Alexian Field on Tuesday night to begin a series with Winnipeg.
