Orange County Flyers News Release

With two outs and two on in a 6-6 game, Jesse Schmidt delivered a clutch opposite field single to drive home the winning runs at Desert Sun Stadium. Wes Faust got the win by throwing 2.2 innings of relief.

The Flyers blew three different leads in the game, but Faust struck out Jacob Guzman to ensure that the fourth lead would be the last.

The Flyers took a 5-2 lead in the 4th inning when Schmidt doubled in Gabe Mayorga.

The Flyers took control of the game behind a three-run rally in the 3rd inning. After Peanut Williams walked to load the bases, Trevor Hall cleared them with a double to left centerfield.

Trevor Hall tripled and scored on a Bret Levier single to give the Flyers their first lead in the 2nd inning.

Yuma jumped on Chris Jakubauskas for two solo homeruns. Billy Malone's homer tied the game at 1-1 and Hector Tena's homer cut the lead to 5-3.

Ryan Olson and Jon Grijalva combined to concede the lead in the 7th inning when the Scorpions hit three doubles and tied the score at five.

The Flyers fought back in the 8th inning to take a 6-5 lead when Joe Frazee's sac fly scored Levier. Mayorga's sac bunt set up the inning.

Andy Wilson fought off an 0-2 pitch to get a game-tying base hit in the Scorpions 8th inning.

The game was played at a brutally slow pace due to both sides consistently arguing with the umpires' judgement and eight pitching changes. Brian Bunyan was ejected from the game by the home plate umpire after he was lifted for a relief pitcher.

With the series tied at 1-1, the Flyers will turn to Todd Gelatka to win the rubber match Thursday at 7 pm.
