Orange County Flyers News Release
In one of their best performances of the season, the Flyers excelled on the mound, with their gloves and at the plate. The Flyers took the game 5-1 over the Reno Silver Sox to move to 6-6 in the second half.
The Flyers took game one of a three game series with the first-half champion Reno Silver Sox 5-1 Friday night behind a strong seven innings from Todd Gelatka. Gelatka gave up just one run on three hits and one walk, while striking out four. He earned his third victory of the season.
Hector Zamora, who was traded to the Flyers by the Silver Sox, made two sterling defensive plays in support of Gelatka at third base. He also chipped in with a solo homerun and three hits.
Peanut Williams cranked his league-leading 17th homerun and drove in two runs to push his season total to 56.
Bret Levier started two rallies and made a great leaping catch on a line drive at shortstop. He walked and scored the first run of the game in the 3rd inning.
Levier's double to start the 5th inning was followed by a bunt single from Garry Templeton II. Templeton's bunt was picked up by Gredvig, who threw the ball down the right fiield line.
Levier came around to score and Templeton advanced to third base. Jesse Schmidt drove home Templeton with the infield in.
Reno got their only run when Doug Gredvig started the 5th inning with a double. He scored on an RBI groundout from DJ Stacey.
The Flyers will look for a franchise record four-game winning streak Saturday night at 6 pm with Jeff Groeger getting the start.
