Chico Outlaws News Release

CHICO, CA - The Chico Outlaws early-season woes continued Wednesday as Orange County piled up 16 hits and used a four run 6th inning to blow open a close contest...the Flyers downed the Outlaws 8-2 to sweep a three-game series and hand Chico its fourth straight loss.

Orange County took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd when Jermy Acey singled home Mark Okano and Dave Bacani scored when Brian Rios reached on an error by Outlaws shortstop Jesse Kovacs. Chico cut the lead in half in the 4th when Kovacs scored from third on a Julian Benavidez groundout, but the Flyers answered back with two runs in the 5th off Outlaws starting pitcher Rudy Quinonez - Bacani scoring after stealing third when catcher Gerardo Verastegui's throw sailed into left field...later in the inning Pat Breen doubled home Rios to give Orange County a 4-1 lead.

Lino Garcia's solo homer in the bottom of the 5th made the score 4-2, but that was as close as the Outlaws would get...in the 6th Orange County knocked Quinonez out of the contest thanks to a solo homer by Fernando Pacheco and a two-run bomb by Okano. Chico reliever Trevor Caughey took over for Quinonez and was immediately greeted by a Bacani double and a run-scoring single by Acey, giving the Flyers an 8-2 advantage. The Orange County bullpen took it from there - Bob Cramer and Ezequiel Ruvalcaba combined to hold the Outlaws to just two hits over the final four innings to give the Flyers the win and the series sweep.

Flyers starter Jeremy Zick (1-1) allowed just one earned run on three hits over five innings to get credit for the win...Quinonez (0-3) took the loss for Chico. Three different Flyers - Okano, Acey and Breen - had three hits on the night, while Bacani, Rios and Josh Arhart had two apiece...the Outlaws had just five hits, with Garcia going 2-for-4. Wednesday's loss drops Chico to 1-9 on the season, while Orange County improves to 7-3 for the year. The Outlaws take Thursday off before resuming their homestand Friday with the first of three against the Long Beach Armada - lefty Derrick Loop (1-0) will be on the mound for Chico in the series opener. Game time is 7:05pm; hear all the action with Rory Miller calling the play-by-play beginning at 6:35pm on ESPN 101.7 FM or 1340 AM.
