Flyers Comeback Thwarted

Schaumburg Flyers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL - A ninth-inning comeback-win looked imminent Thursday night at Alexian Field for the Flyers, as they loaded the bases with just one out trailing Joliet 4-3. But T.J. Wilson hit a liner to third where Andrew Pinckney made the catch and applied the tag to Victor Ferrante before he could scamper back to the bag to end the game. A season best 6,509 fans at Alexian Field witnessed the JackHammers series-clinching win.
The Flyers ninth started with a Felix Jose walk against Drew Shetrone. Ferrante was then hit by a Shetrone pitch, and Jason Colson knocked a single to left to score Stephen Yoo who was pinch-running for Jose. Travis Brown followed with a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt, moving the winning-run to second. Jeff Dunbar pinch-hit for Richard Mercado, and was intentionally walked to load the bases and set the stage for the game-ending play.
Joliet got on the board against Flyers starter Ed Almonte in the second with a solo homer from Pinckney. They scored twice more off an Adam Klein single in a fourth inning in which Almonte walked three JackHammers. Joliet's final run came an inning later off a Freddie Thon single, scoring Phil Avlas to run the Joliet lead to 4-0.
Schaumburg cut the lead in half with two in the sixth thanks to a two-out Vince Harrison single, and a Jose fly-ball double that Joliet's centerfielder Klein lost in the lights.
Jose Valdez was the only Flyer to record multiple hits, going 2-4 with a single, a double, and a run scored. Andrew Pinckney was the only Joliet player to get more than one hit, finishing 2-3.
Ryan Gehring (2-2) made his best start in a JackHammer uniform, going 7.2 and allowing only two runs on seven hits to pick up the win. Shetrone escaped with his second save of the campaign. Almonte (3-3) is tagged with the loss, allowing four runs on four hits in six innings of work. Garrett Rieck worked two scoreless innings of relief and gave up only one hit.
Dustin Glant (4-1, 2.67) takes the ball tomorrow as the Flyers welcome Kansas City to Alexian Field for a three-game set. Tickets are still available for tomorrow's Fireworks Friday, with the first pitch being thrown at 6:45.
