Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas Baseball club announced several roster moves today granting five players their unconditional release and announcing one voluntary retirement. The Amarillo Dillas were crowned United League Champions the last two years and it appears that a run at a third consecutive title will take on a different look, at least from a player standpoint.

In unprecedented fashion, the Dillas released five players today including INF Angel Reyes, OF Anthony Bennett, LHP Justin Phillips, LHP Jessie Rodriguez, and LHP Dustin Taylor. In unrelated transactions, the club announced the voluntary retirement of RHP Robert Wooley.

Reyes originally signed with the Edinburg Road Runners, United League, as a free agent on June 4, 2009 and appeared in 30 games batting.259 with 4 doubles to go with 17 runs batted before being traded to the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, United League, on July 14, 2009. Phillips started out the 2009 season with Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the Northern League making just two appearances while posting a 20.25 earned run average before his release. Phillips signed with Amarillo on July 15, 2009. He appeared in 10 games pitching 54 innings posting a record of 1-4 giving up 51 earned runs walking 36 batters with an earned run average of 8.50.

Rodriguez, a graduate of nearby Wayland Baptist University, was a member of the pitching staff during the last two championship seasons. In 2009, Rodriguez appeared in 13 games, 4 of which were starts, pitching 40.2 innings posting a 2-2 record giving up 6 home runs and 62 runs with an earned run average of 7.97.

Taylor spent the 2008 season with the Joliet Jackhammers of the Northern League, where he pitched in 25 games with a record of 4-2 with a save while posting an earned run average of 7.21.
