Florida's Barrett earns GATORADE call up to Suns

March 1, 2006 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C., March 1 - The Phoenix Suns signed Florida Flame point guard Andre Barrett to a 10-day contract today, making him the seventh GATORADE Call-Up of the 2005-06 NBA Development League season and 57th overall since the league began play in November 2001.

Barrett, 5-11, 175, is the second player in Florida Flame history to earn a GATORADE Call-Up. Current Lakers point guard Smush Parker was signed to a pair of 10-day contracts by the Suns last season.

The first overall selection in the 2005 D-League Draft, Barrett currently ranks among D-League leaders in total assists (217, 2nd), assists average (6.6, 3rd), minutes per game (35.6, 5th), and scoring average (17.0, 10th). Barrett has scored in double figures in all but two games this season and has converted 50-percent of his field goals (192-383) in his last 28 games. He posted a season-high 31 points on 12-of-21 shooting at Tulsa on January 28, 2006, and notched a double-double with 16 points and team-record-tying 15 assists vs. Austin on January 8.

Barrett split the 2004-05 season in the NBA with the Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic. An Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American as a senior at Seton Hall in 2003-04, Barrett also earned First Team All-Big East honors with the Pirates, averaging a team-high 17.3 points and 5.9 assists per game.

The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.). The Bakersfield Jam (Calif.) will compete in the league beginning with the 2006-07 season.

Thirty-nine (39) players have been called up to the NBA on 57 separate occasions. Eleven (11) former D-League coaches, six athletic trainers, 14 referees and 30 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.
