Austin's Marcus Fizer Named NBA D-League Player of Month

GREENVILLE, S.C., March 1 - Marcus Fizer of the Austin Toros was named NBA Development League Player of the Month for games played in February.

In 10 games during February, Fizer averaged 32.0 minutes, 21.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists while leading the Toros to an 8-2 record. He converted 51-percent (76-149) from the field and 73-percent (58-80) from the free throw line.

He recorded four double-doubles and did not score less than 16 points in any game during the month. His biggest game of the month was 36 points and 11 rebounds against Fayetteville on February 23. He followed that two nights later by scoring 20 and grabbing 17 boards against Tulsa.

Fizer is fourth in the D-League in scoring and fifth in rebounding, averaging 20.3 and 7.5, respectively. He also ranks among the league's top five in field goals made per game (7.4, 2nd), free throws made per game (5.2, 4th), free throws attempted per game (7.1, 3rd) and defensive rebounding (5.7, 5th). At 6-8 and 260, he is also 13th in the league in assists at 3.1 per game.

Other nominees for the D-League February Player of the Month were Albuquerque's Marcus Douthit, Florida's Bracey Wright, Fort Worth's Luke Schenscher, Roanoke's Anthony Grundy and Tulsa's Will Conroy. Arkansas and Fayetteville did not nominate a player from their squad.

The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.). The Bakersfield Jam (Calif.) will begin play with the start of the 2006-07 season.

The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Thirty-eight (38) players have been called up to the NBA on 56 separate occasions. Eleven (11) former D-League coaches, six athletic trainers, 14 referees and 30 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The D-League is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
