
Florida Sets NBDL Assist Record In 124-115 Win Over Roanoke

FORT MYERS, Fla., March 5 - The Florida Flame (9-26) defeated the Roanoke Dazzle 124-115 in front of 1,562 fans at Germain Arena. The win marks the fourth this season for the Flame over the Dazzle, as Roanoke (24-13) move back into a tie for first place with Columbus in the latest NBDL standings. In the game, the Flame dished out a league record 39 assists which broke the previous record of 38 set by the Asheville Altitude on March 20, 2004 against Huntsville.
Four Flame players achieved double-doubles in the game. Hiram Fuller scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his league-leading seventeenth double-double, Kirk Haston scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Smush Parker scored 24 points and dished out 13 assists, and Marcus Moore scored 14 points and dished out 11 assists.
Isiah Victor led all scorers in the game with 31 points while James Thomas scored 19 points and pulled down 16 rebounds for his sixteenth double-double of the season. Gary Hill-Thomas added 26 points and Seth Doliboa added 20 points in the loss for Roanoke.
Both teams shot extremely well from the floor with Roanoke shooting 53.5-percent and Florida shooting 51-percent.
Florida started the game on a 19-9 run and raced out to an early 34-25 first quarter lead. Hiram Fuller led all scorers in the period with 11 points.
In the second quarter, Florida increased their lead to 15 points, their largest of the game, on a Marcus Moore jumper with 11:35 to play in the period. But Roanoke closed the gap using two 6-0 runs to cut Florida's lead to five points at the half-time break, 58-53. Gary-Hill Thomas scored 10 points in the period to lead all scorers.
The Flame increased their five point half-time lead to 13 points on a Carl English jumper with 6:10 remaining in the third period. But Roanoke put together a 12-2 run, sparked by eight points by Isiah Victor midway through the period and closed the Flame lead to eight points at the end of the quarter, 91-83.
Both teams shot lights out in the fourth quarter, with Florida hitting 70-percent and Roanoke hitting 60-percent of their shots. But it was the Flame who hit their free-throws down the stretch pulling out the 124-115 victory.
Florida will next travel to Columbus for a Thursday night showdown with the Riverdragons at the Columbus Civic Center. Roanoke will take a week off before hosting the Florida Flame at Roanoke Civic Center on Saturday.
