Florida Flight Promote Rabon Smith to General Manager

(Orlando, FL) - Effective immediately, the Florida Flight has promoted Rabon Smith to the position of General Manager.
Smith, a Florida native and Lyman High School alum, spent two years on the game day staff for the Ashville Altitude of the NBA D-League before joining the Flight as an intern last season. He quickly proved his leadership ability, and was named Director of Game Day Operations before the start of the 2010 season.
¬ÅRabon made a strong impression quickly, ¬Â said Mark King, Owner and President of the Flight. ¬ÅHe emailed me about our Flight School internship program the day before our first tryout. I told him I'd touch base next week, but welcomed him to attend the tryout, and he showed up ready to work from the start. Rabon contributed greatly to our success last season. ¬Â
Smith replaces Greg Kite, whose demanding schedule has prevented him from being fully immersed in the day-to-day off-season activities for the Flight.
¬ÅWe still want Greg involved in some form or fashion. We hope to have a discussion about what makes better sense for both parties in the coming weeks, ¬Â said King.
Smith, who was informed of his promotion several weeks ago, is eager to get started. Updating the 2011 sponsorship packages, following up with new potential interns, and assisting King with solidifying a lease allowing the team to play in the Avalon Park community of East Orlando next season are at the top of the priority list.
