Florida Flight News Release
(Orlando, FL) - The Florida Flight joyfully participated in Avalon Aglow, an annual holiday festival in the Avalon Park community of East Orlando on Saturday, December 4th.
Avalon Park is a large "self-contained" community that thousands of Central Floridians call home. The Flight intends to call the community home for the upcoming 2011 Continental Basketball League (CBL) season.
The Avalon Aglow festivities kicked off with a Christmas parade, in which the Flight participated.
In addition to team owner Mark King, players who participated included holdovers Ernest Jones, Garvin Gordon, Andrew Haas, Jacob Carver and Jay Husagic; as well as newcomers Kene "Bungee" Anusionwu and Bryce Bow. Staff members Rabon Smith, John Weis, and brothers Josh and Tim Aries were also in attendance.
The Flight also utilized the event to market their 1st Annual Holiday Basketball Extravaganza. The team will square off against the Palm Beach Titans, another CBL league mate, to gather toys for Toys for Tots, the nationally renowned not-for-profit run by the U.S. Marines.
The game, scheduled for Saturday, December 11th, will be held at River Run Christian Church in Chuluota, Florida, just outside the Avalon Park community. Thanks to Larsen & Associates, PA, one of the Flight's sponsors, attendees will enjoy free admission upon bringing an unwrapped children's toy to donate.
"We support the Flight because they support our community," said Rick Larsen, Managing Attorney for the firm. "There are thousands of children that deserve to have a toy to open on Christmas morning. We wanted to partner with the Flight and bring some much needed holiday cheer to families that are struggling this holiday season."
The game will also include a pre-game concert featuring The King's Offspring, the Flight's official "In-Flight Entertainment" group. The Company Girls, a middle school dance team from Avalon Dance Company, will also perform at halftime. Inasense, an up-and-coming Christian Pop-Rock group, will perform the National Anthem.
The concert will begin at 5:00pm. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
