Florida Flight Lose Nail-Biter To Gainesville Galaxy
(Orlando, FL) - Gerard Jackson drilled a three-point shot from the right baseline with 13 seconds remaining, providing the winning margin of victory in the Gainesville Galaxy's 90-87 win over the Florida Flight.
The Flight led by one point at halftime and stretched their lead to seven going into the fourth quarter, but could not keep the hard-charging Galaxy at bay.
"There were two things that essentially sealed our fate," said Flight Coach Mark King. "We've got to prevent ill-timed defensive lapses and we have to box out better, especially on the defensive end. Gainesville was given too many second-chance points."
Jackson paced all scorers with 26, while teammates Corey Gaither (16), Rodney Walker (13), Corey Williams (12) and Jurell Hopkins (10) also posted double-figure efforts for the Galaxy. Garvin Gordon scored 24 on 10-of-12 shooting to lead the Flight, while guard Freed Meeks scored 19.
"We've got six rookies on this team, so we have a different make-up than we had last season," said Coach King. "Our young players are hungry. We're going to keep working, finish this season out strong, and continue to build the foundational platform for a strong minor league basketball system here in the Avalon Park Community of East Orlando!"
The Galaxy's win squares the season series at two wins apiece, making the final weekend of the regular season an important one. After traveling up to Birmingham to play the Sabers on June 10th, the Flight finish the regular season with a double-header weekend at home against Gainesville on Saturday, June 18th and Heartland on Sunday, June 19th. Both games will likely have playoff implications.
