Florida Flight Bolster Roster

May 27, 2011 - Continental Basketball League (CBL) - Florida Flight News Release

(Avalon Park, FL) - The Florida Flight signed guards Fred Meeks and Brandon Armistead on Friday, May 29th. Both players were recently waived by the Gainesville Galaxy earlier this week.

No stranger to the Flight organization, Armistead took part in the Florida Flight School tryout league, the format utilized to seek out the very best local talent in Central Florida for the 2011 season.

Meeks, a teammate of Armistead with the Galaxy, is a veteran player who lives locally in the Orlando area. Both players will get a chance to show and prove their worth immediately, as the Flight has a home and home matchup this weekend against the Galaxy.

"Brandon had a solid tryout showing in our Flight School league," said Flight Head Coach Mark King. "He and Fred complement our other players well; bringing some much needed veteran leadership to our young team."

Last week, the Flight also added Forward Cordell Jeanty. Jeanty, a 6'5" forward fresh off a strong season with the Quebec Quebs of the Premier Basketball League, made an immediate impact, scoring 37 points in his debut last Saturday against the Jacksonville Bluewaves.

"We've had a very slow start to the season, which is to be expected by a team with 6 rookies," said King. We've tweaked our roster, and I am confident that we have the pieces necessary to make a strong push for a championship run.

The Flight will host the Galaxy Saturday, May 28th at Avalon Middle School, nestled in the beautiful East Orlando community of Avalon Park. Tip-off is slated for 5:30pm. The following day, the Flight will travel to Gainesville for a 4:00pm game. The Galaxy lead the regular season series thus far, stealing the season opener 100-90 in an overtime thriller on May 7th.

Flight tickets can be purchased at the door for $10.00. Tickets can also be purchased online at http://floridaflight.ticketleap.com.
