Florida Firecats News Release
Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats announced today the addition of FB/LB Clenton "Boobie" Crossley
Crossley, the Firecats leading rusher in 2006, spent much of the 2007 season with the AFL's Tampa Bay Storm. Last year he ran for 380 yards and a team record 18 TD's. On the defensive side of the ball Crossley finished 4th on the team with 36.5 tackles. An offensive player by nature, he had a knack for making plays on defense as well recording 3 sacks, 4.5 tackles for a loss and 3 fumble recoveries.
To make room on the roster for Crossley the Firecats placed backup quarterback Mike McQuagge on suspension. McQuagge hasn't dressed for a game since week 5. If a need arises during a game for a quarterback to replace starter Chris Wallace then coach Bouis will call upon Ethenic Sands. Sands was originally recruited by Miami as a QB before making the move to receiver.
Florida also announced that they will be activating Kicker Andy Eminger and placing Will Nicoloso on recallable reassignment. Eminger began the season as the Firecats starting kicker before tearing his left calf muscle in week 3 against Tennessee Valley. During the 1st 4 games of the season he scored 20 points going 20 for 26 on point after attempts. Nicoloso joined the Firecats in week 6 and was a perfect 8 for 8 on extra points in a win over the Albany Conquest. In 4 games he accounted for 26 points and was 23 of 33 on PAT's.
"We're a good team but there's always room for improvement," Firecats coach Kevin Bouis said of the recent roster moves. "Historically we've always brought 1 or 2 guys in to provide a little extra spark down the stretch. We have a lot of tough games ahead on our schedule."
Of the Firecats remaining 6 opponents, 5 would qualify for the playoffs if the post- season were to begin this week.
The Florida Firecats host the 14th ranked Manchester Wolves (5-5) this Saturday June 16th. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm EST. Tickets are on sale now. Call the Firecats box office at 390-CATS (2287) to reserve your seats. The Firecats are 2-2 against the Wolves all-time, including a 40-39 win in the playoffs at Germain Arena last year.
