Wolves' Bennett Returns To Old Stomping Grounds

June 15, 2007 - arenafootball2 (af2)
Manchester Wolves News Release

Manchester Wolves' Head Coach Ben Bennett is returning home to Florida.

Bennett, will return to his old stomping grounds this Saturday night when his Wolves (5-5) take on his former Florida Firecats (7-3) ball club for the first time this season. Bennett started his head coaching career with the Firecats and in just two seasons (2003-2004) made them a legitimate powerhouse, as he compiled back-to-back 10-6 regular season records and a 4-1 overall playoff record, which included an ArenaCup championship in 2004 on his home field at the Germain Arena in Estero, Fl.

This will be Bennett's third trip back to Estero and fifth overall matchup against his former team, which he is currently 2-2 against, since joining the Wolves in 2005. Most recently the Firecats beat the Wolves last August in Florida in a second-round arenafootball2 American Conference post-season battle, 40-39, which was decided with just seconds left on the clock.

"I always enjoy the reception I get in Florida for these games," said Bennett on the atmosphere in Germain Arena. "It's gotten better over time, at first they pelted me with bottles and now they just throw small rocks."

This Saturday night's game will give Bennett's Wolves a chance to be over .500 for the first time this year and head into their Week 12 bye with a chance to rest up for their post-season run at 6-5. Manchester will have five games remaining on their 2007 schedule, after their bye week, with matchups against South Georgia (7-3), Cincinnati (1-8), Wilkes-Barre Scranton (9-0), Albany (3-6) and Florida (7-3).

"This game will be a battle, as they are easily the most experienced team in the af2," added Bennett on his team's opponent. "It'll be nice to enter our bye week at 6-5 with a chance to rest and focus on our end stretch, which doesn't give us any "gimmies"."

If the 2007 arenafootball2 playoffs started today the Manchester Wolves would enter the post-season as the 8 th and final seed in the American Conference.
