Florida Basketball Association Championship Game Announced

(Tampa, FL) - With just one week remaining in the regular season, the Tampa Bay Rebels and Heartland Prowl have clinched their positions to play for the inaugural Florida Basketball Association (FBA) championship on Saturday, July 28th at Freedom High School.

The Rebels and Prowl quickly separated themselves from the rest of the league. At press time, the Rebels lead the FBA with a 10-1 record, with the Prowl securely in second place at 8-3. Tampa is currently on a 9-game winning streak, defeating the Prowl last weekend to clinch home court advantage for the single elimination championship game.

"We have had a good showing during the regular season, but winning streaks do not guarantee you a championship," said Rebels coach Fernando Rojas. "We need to stay focused and keep our one-game-at-a-time approach for the rest of the season. Our opponent, the Heartland Prowl, is an excellent team with a wide range of offensive and defensive skills. They also have a very experienced coach in Cornell Young."

Top Rebel players include Matt Kendrick (16.3 ppg, 13 rpg, 4 blk) and Tim Ware (25.9 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.9 bpg).

Prowl coach Cornell Young is equally excited to be involved in the title contest.

"I am truly excited to go against Coach Rojas and the Tampa Bay Rebels in the championship game," he said. "I've known Coach Rojas for several years and he is a true professional. He has done an awesome job with his team. I would also like to express my praise to the other two teams in the FBA; to Avion Hale and the Palm Beach Titans family, and to Mark King and the Florida Flight family."

Leading the charge for the Prowl are Michael Floyd (23 ppg, 8 apg, 4 rpg), Junior Geidi (17 ppg, 7 apg, 3 spg), and Derell Henderson (19 ppg, 9 rpg, 2 bpg).
