Florida Acquires Center Jeff Aubry

FORT MYERS, Fla., February 22 - The Florida Flame have acquired center Jeff Aubry from the National Basketball Development League player pool, according to an announcement today by NBDL director of basketball operations Chris Alpert and Flame Head Coach Dennis Johnson. The Flame also waived forward Tim Washington.

Aubry, a 6-10 center out of Cornell University (1999), was a member of the Fayetteville Patriots for both the 2001 and 2002 seasons. With Fayetteville, Aubry averaged 6.9 points on 51-percent shooting, 5.9 rebounds and 1.5 blocks spanning the two seasons. He also played internationally in Spain, Venezuela, Peru and Puerto Rico.

As a senior at Cornell, Aubry averaged 10.5 points on 54.1-percent shooting, 8.6 rebounds and 2.4 blocks.

Tim Washington played in 31 games for Florida, averaging 4.0 points and 2.5 rebounds. He recorded highs of 12 points and seven rebounds this season for the Flame.

Aubry, who will wear jersey #42, is expected to play at Columbus on Saturday.

The NBDL, the NBA's minor league, includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.) and Asheville Altitude (N.C.).

The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Thirty-three (33) players have been called up the NBA on 44 separate occasions. Nine former NBDL coaches, five athletic trainers, 11 referees and 29 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001. Six additional front office executives have earned positions with other major league sports.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The NBDL is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
