Flordia State League: Meet the Managers Event

March 31, 2023 - Florida State League (FSL)
Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

With the 2023 Spring Training season in the rearview mirror, Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium is excited for the upcoming Florida State League featuring the Jupiter Hammerheads and Palm Beach Cardinals.

Join Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, the Hammerheads, and Cardinals at Miller's Ale House on Donald Ross Rd. in Alton for a pre-season media day on Tuesday, April 4th starting at 2:30 PM. Media will have their first chance to interview the managers and select players as both teams will be represented on Tuesday.

For the Hammerheads, there will be a new manager at the helm as Nelson Prada takes over. The former catcher began his coaching career with the Minnesota Twins and joined the Marlins organization in 2021. Beyond affiliated baseball, the Venezuelan native has also coached internationally, serving as manager for the Spanish national team in the 2021 European Championship and working on the staff for the 2022 World Baseball Classic qualifiers.

For Palm Beach, it will be a familiar face as Gary Kendall returns for his second season with the Cardinals. In 2022, Kendall led Palm Beach to a second half FSL championship and the club's first playoff appearance since 2018. Before joining the Cardinals organization, Kendall spent 17 seasons as a manager throughout the Baltimore Orioles organization. This includes stints with the Norfolk Tides, Bowie Baysox, Aberdeen IronBirds, Delmarva Shorebirds, and Bluefield Orioles.

Joining the managers will be players from both clubs.

The Hammerheads will be represented by INF Ian Lewis, RHP Karson Milbrandt, and INF Jordan McCants. Lewis rejoins Jupiter after playing 51 games for the Hammerheads last season. The switch-hitting middle infielder is the Marlins' No. 15 overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline. Milbrandt also donned a Jupiter uniform last season, but for only one game. The 2022 third round draft pick is slotted as the No. 16 overall prospect with a fastball that reaches the high-90s. McCants will be a new face for the Hammerheads after previously playing with the FCL Marlins. The Florida native was the Marlins 2021 third round selection.

Across the table, the Palm Beach Cardinals will have LHP Bryce Mautz and INF Brody Moore. Mautz will make his professional debut with the Cardinals this season after being drafted from the University of San Diego in the second round of the 2022 draft. The 6-foot-3 lefty can dial his fastball up to 97 MPH and features a sweeping slider to keep batters guessing. Mautz is currently listed as the Cardinals No. 13 overall prospect. Moore helped Palm Beach reach the playoffs last season appearing in 32 games. The 22-year-old was drafted in 2022 after playing collegiate baseball with Auburn University.

The two clubs will face-off against each other on Thursday, April 6th to kick off the 2023 Florida State League season at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. On Thursday, fans will receive a magnet schedule when they come to the ballpark and can enjoy our first Thirsty Thursday ™ of the season! On Friday, we'll host our first Fireworks Friday show after the game. Join us on Saturday for our Easter Celebration with an on-field candy scramble and the Easter Bunny.

Tickets are available for both the Hammerheads and Cardinals at RogerDeanChevroletStadium.com.
