Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - Youngstown SteelHounds General Manager George Manias announced today that the SteelHounds collected over 730 items in their inaugural "Flip Your Lids" night this past Saturday when Youngstown dropped a 2-1 decision to the Wichita Thunder at the Chevrolet Centre in front of the first official SteelHounds sellout of 5,717 fans.

Jeff Christian's second period goal started a storm of fleece and cotton from the stands as fans threw hats, scarves and gloves on the ice with charity in mind. All items collected will be donated by the SteelHounds to Goodwill Industries to help those in need during the cold months.

"We would like to thank the Mahoning Valley community and SteelHounds fans for their generosity this past weekend," said SteelHounds General Manager George Manias. "We were overwhelmed with the response for this promotion and feel that along with our previous toy drive and food drive we are showing that we are indeed committed to this community as more than just an entertainment vehicle. We believe in giving back and with initiatives such as these and what we have planned in the future, the SteelHounds are committed to making a positive influence in this community."

The SteelHounds continue their five-game home stand on Friday night when they host the Odessa Jackalopes.
