
Flint Generals announce 08-09 schedule

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals will begin their 39th season of professional hockey this October and this (Friday) afternoon the club along with the International Hockey League released their 2008-2009 schedule. The six teams will once again play a 76 game schedule with a greater part of the games being played on weekends. Generals' fans will notice a change to their schedule with a majority of the home games being moved to Thursday and Saturday nights instead of Fridays. The Generals season officially begins on the road on Friday, Oct. 17 with a trip to Bloomington to face the Prairie Thunder at US Cellular Coliseum. The first weekend concludes on Saturday, Oct. 18 when the Generals face the defending Turner Cup Champion Fort Wayne Komets at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. The blue and gold's first home game at Perani Arena and Event Center is set for Thursday, Oct. 23 when the Generals entertain their I-69 rivals the Port Huron Icehawks at 7 pm. The Generals will play 13 home games on Thursdays, 10 on Saturdays and just seven on Fridays. The lone Tuesday night game is on St. Patrick's Day versus the Bloomington Prairie Thunder. Flint will play just two home games on Wednesdays and three on Sundays. This season the Generals will be on the road on New Years Eve facing the Fort Wayne Komets. There will be seven (7) Generals' games in October, thirteen (13) in November, twelve (12) in December, fourteen (14) in January, eleven (11) in February, thirteen (13) in March, and six (6) in April. The Generals will play six straight games away from Perani Arena and Event Center in late January and early February, and a stretch of nine of 11. There are two three-game home stands during the season and one of four consecutive contests. All weeknight games (with the exception of Friday) at Perani Arena face-off at 7 pm, while Friday and Saturday games begin at 7:30 pm. The three Sunday games start at 4 pm. The Generals will face the Port Huron Icehawks, Muskegon Fury, and Fort Wayne Komets a total of 16 times (eight home and eight away), while the Kalamazoo Wings and the Bloomington Prairie Thunder will be opponents for a total of 14 times (seven home and seven away). Season Tickets and Corporate Partnership opportunities are currently available for the 2008-2009 Flint Generals season. A season ticket gives fans the same seat for all 38 games during the regular season. A $100 deposit per seat is required and all seats will be held until October 1st. There are several discounts that are being offered until July 1st as well and they include $10 off each seat purchased when paid in full at time of purchase, and one free parking pass given to people who purchase any combination of four or more season tickets. All current season ticket holders will receive an additional $5 off the purchase of each ticket when paid in full at time of purchase. The Flint Generals offer businesses a chance for their name to be seen by hockey fans over a seventh month period. There are a variety of small, medium and large packages and opportunities available.
