Flight Streetball Live Event A Huge Success
April 11, 2011 - Continental Basketball League (CBL)
Florida Flight News Release
(Orlando, FL) - April 6 is a date that Florida Flight fans won't soon forget. The Florida Flight kicked off the 2011 season in their new location in Avalon Park with a special event, "Streetball Live," that showcased some of the world's best streetball specialists. These basketball magicians competed against hand-picked all-stars from the local Central Florida Hoops league, which was sponsored by the Flight.
The Streetballers team, called "Showtime," featured stars Majic Dorsey, Werm, Bounce, Made for TV, Heaven Sent, Stretch, Letz Do It, Airbourne, and the Flight's own Big Yu, Yusef Baker! They dazzled the crowd with a variety of dunks, dribbling exhibitions and long-range shooting that left them with much to remember.
The kick-off event was also used to assess player prospects from the Central Florida Hoops Flight School scout league hoping to gain a roster spot on the 2011 Florida Flight opening-day roster.
"We wanted to put these players in a position to see how they are able to perform when the lights come on," said Rabon Smith, General Manager of the Flight.
The event also featured a special guest appearance by former Duke University and NBA star Christian Laettner, who conducted a children's basketball clinic during the halftime activities.
"This was the first event at Avalon Middle School, our new venue for the 2011 season," said Florida Flight Owner Mark King. "If this is any indication as to how Avalon Park will receive the Flight, we'll be in great shape when our season opens on May 13."
The Central Florida Hoops Flight School Scout League will wrap up April 19. Official training camp for the Flight begins the following day.
