HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Dec. 28, 2002) â A.J. Guyton scored 21 points, including a driving layup with 34 seconds left to help the Huntsville Flight rally for a 83-82 National Basketball Development League victory over the Roanoke Dazzle here Saturday night at the Von Braun Center.
The first-place Flight (12-7) won for the third straight time, while the Dazzle (6-10) had a two-game winning streak snapped.
The Flight, which trailed for the entire first three quarters, rallied from a 66-59 deficit in the fourth by outscoring the Dazzle 18-10 over a six and a half minute span, capped by a Jermaine Walker three-point play with 2:51 left. Walker's three-point play gave Huntsville its first lead of the contest at 77-76.
The lead then changed hands three times, before Guyton gave the Flight the final lead of the game. Lonnie Harrell added a pair of free throws with 12 seconds remaining to ice the contest.
Guyton, who did his damage off the bench, was acquired by the Flight on Friday was a member of both the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors earlier this year.
Mikki Moore led four Dazzle players in double figures with 27 points, while Terrence Shannon, Jamal Robinson and Cory Alexander each tallied 15 points for Roanoke.
Joining Guyton in double figures for Huntsville was Bakari Hendrix with 18 points, Harrell with 13 points and Walker with 12 points. Rodney Bias added eight points, a game-high 14 rebounds and four blocks for the Flight.
It looked early as if the Dazzle would go on to an easy victory as they scored the first eight points of the contest and led by as many as 15 points in the opening quarter at 23-8 before the Flight rallied to trail just 24-14 after one quarter. Huntsville also was behind at the intermission 41-35 and at the end of the third 64-59.
The Flight, though, shot 51.6 percent for the game, converting 33-of-64 shots, including 46.2 percent from 3-point range. Roanoke shot 47.1 percent by making 32-of-68 attempts.
Huntsville finishes its three-game homestand Tuesday when they take on Fayetteville in a 7:30 p.m. CT contest, while Roanoke travels to Columbus for a 6 p.m. ET Sunday.
