HUNTSVILLE, Ala., March 15 â The Huntsville Flight ended a three-game losing streak, and snapped the Florida Flame's three-game win streak with a 103-101 victory in National Basketball Development League action at the Von Braun Center arena.
Huntsville center Earl Barron dropped in a lay-up with 7:10 left to play in the fourth quarter to give the Flight a 90-79 lead. Florida responded with an 11-2 run, cutting the lead to 92-90 on Kirk Haston's lay-up from Carl English with 3:28 left to play. Point guard Jason Miskiri then took over, scoring eight of the Flight's final 11 points to help seal the win.
Early in the third quarter, the Flight had the game's biggest lead at 62-46. The Flame used a blistering 21-5 run to even the score at 67-67 with 4:11 left in the quarter. A three-point field goal by Marcus Moore, and one free throw each by Byron Mouton and Tim Pickett gave Florida a 77-76 lead after three quarters.
The fourth-place Flight, which had lost eight-of-nine coming into the game, improved to 19-18 overall, and 5-2 against the Flame. Florida dropped to 11-27 and remains in sixth place.
Barron and Damone Brown each finished with 21 points, leading five Flight players in double figures. Ronald Blackshear scored a season-high 12 points in just 10 minutes off the Huntsville bench.
Haston led all scorers with 24 points. English finished with 22 points, and Smush Parker added 18.
Up next for the Flight is a meeting with first-place Columbus, this Friday night at the Columbus Civic Center. Florida returns home to host the Asheville Altitude Saturday night.
