
Flight defeats Asheville 87-73 Friday night

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Dec. 6, 2002) â Brandon Williams led four Huntsville players in double figures with a game-high 26 points to lead the Flight to a 87-73 NBDL victory over the Asheville Altitude here Friday night at the Von Braun Center.
Bakari Hendrix and Eric Chenowith each added 17 points for the Flight (6-3), while Lonnie Harrell scored 11. Chenowith also collected his first double-double of the season as he added a game-high 10 rebounds.
Larry Abney, who scored 15 first-quarter points, paced the Altitude with 21 while Eddie Gill added 12 and Jeff Trepagnier and Paul Grant each contributed 10.
Behind Abney's play in the opening half, the Altitude (5-5) jumped out to a 26-24 advantage after one quarter and led 44-40 at the intermission.
Then the Flight used a big second half to rally for the comeback victory.
"Their defense took over in the second half," Altitude coach Joey Meyer said. "It was a totally different game in the second half. Their intensity went up a notch and ours stayed the same and hat was the difference tonight."
Down eight points at 55-47with 2:17 to play in the third, the Flight went on a 29-9 run over almost the next 10 minutes to put the game away.
"We were night and day between the first and second half," Williams said for the Flight, who hit 9-of-18 shots from the floor. "How we played in the second half is the team we want to be not the one in the first half."
For the game, the Altitude finished by making 50.9 percent of their shots by hitting 29-of-57 from the field, but only 10-of-28 in the final half for 35.7 percent.
The Flight sunk 46.3 percent of its shots (46.3 percent), while outrebounding the visitors 31-26.
Asheville returns to action when they play at Mobile on Sunday. The Flight return to action with a Saturday night contest at Fayetteville. Tipoff for that game is set for 7:30 pm ET.
