December 12, 2011 - Continental Basketball League (CBL) - Florida Flight News Release

(Orlando, FL) - The Florida Flight collected 108 toys and nearly $200 at their 2nd Annual Toys for Tots charity basketball game on Saturday, December 10th . The game took place at Avalon Middle School, located in the beautiful Avalon Park community in east Orlando, Florida.

Once again providing the opposition was the Palm Beach Titans, who graciously agreed to return to help the Flight carry out their worthwhile cause. Last year's game was a fast-paced contest that saw the Titans outlast the Flight. This year, the Flight jumped out to a 19-5 lead before the first break in action and never looked back. The final score was 129-92.

"It's always good to win, but the real win goes to the Toys for Tots Foundation," said Owner and Head Coach Mark King. "We're going to make this an annual event, and continue to build upon our success year after year."

Halftime festivities included an exclusive interview with Grayson Boucher, AKA The Professor from Fox Sports Ballup Streetball Team.

This year's game also brought out some of Orlando's finest. Former NBAers Greg Kite and David Vaughn were in attendance, as well as Orlando Magic co-emcee and host Megan Clementi. UCF's favorite rapper, Mr. Black and Gold, Bezz Believe, also came out to enjoy the festivities. The game also saw the debut of Turbie, the new official mascot for the Florida Flight.

"We are working hard to bolster the excitement and star appeal that a Flight game brings," said Flight General Manager Rabon Smith. "We have always provided a high quality basketball product. This season we want to take our game day experience to the next level. We were pleased to have such notables in attendance to help make that happen."

The Flight kick-off their "Runway to Game Day" preseason schedule in February. The campaign will include one game each month, with each game featuring a raffle with prizes aimed to raise money for various notable charitable causes.

This coming season, the Flight will become charter members of a new independent minor league system which will include some of the best independent minor league teams operating throughout the southeastern region of the United States. An announcement for the yet-to-be named league is expected before the end of the year. The season is expected to run from May through July.

The mission of the Florida Flight is to utilize the platform of professional basketball to invest in the lives of others. The Flight are the reigning 2011 Southern Division Champions of the Continental Basketball League. For more information, please visit
