November 22, 2004 - American Indoor Football Association (AIFA)
Johnstown RiverHawks News Release

The Johnstown (PA) Riverhawks of the Atlantic Indoor Football League have named Tom Fleming as offensive coordinator for the team's and the league's first season in 2005. It will reunite Fleming with head coach Brian Basile for the third time in their coaching careers.

Their first meeting came at Greater Johnstown High School, where they served as assistant coaches. Fleming coached the linemen for two of the school's WPIAL Keystone Conference championship teams. In 1991, Fleming took over the head coach job from former University of Idaho head coach Jerry Davitch, who he worked under for six seasons.

In Fleming's first season at the helm, his offense threw for over 2,500 yards and 35 touchdowns on their way to a third WPIAL Keystone Conference title. He would lead the Trojans, his alma mater (1979 graduate), where was a two-year letterman and co-captain during his senior season, for six more seasons.

He then served as an offensive assistant coach for Conemaugh Township High School for the next three seasons.

In 2000, the duo met again on the coaching staff of the Indoor Football League's Johnstown J-Dogs, where Basile served as defensive coordinator and Fleming was offensive coordinator.

A native of Johnstown, Tom's love for football began when his father took him to GJHS Trojans home games at Point Stadium.

Fleming worked during his high school coaching years at Penn State University summer football camps and served as the president of the Southern Alleghenies Football Coaches Association. He still directs the SFACA's annual youth football clinic.

Currently principal of Richland High School, Fleming has a Master's Degree in Educational Administration & Supervision from Frostburg State University and is currently enrolled in a educational leadership doctoral program at Duquesne University.

Married to Linda, a local attorney, Fleming has two sons, Ryan (11) and nine-year-old Tyler, who plays football for the Richland Rockets.

Tom's brother-in-law, Jerry Schmitt, also has football ties as head coach at Westminster College.

The Atlantic Indoor Football League is the hottest new professional football league and will kickoff its inaugural season April 1, 2005.
