Western New York Flash News Release

ELMA, N.Y. (Monday, June 15, 2015) - The Western New York Flash announced today that the team has come to terms with Nigerian midfielder Halimatu Ayinde, pending the receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per team and league policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Ayinde, 20, is currently competing with the Nigeria Women's National Team at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup who is slated to face the USA on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET.

Through two group stage games, the midfielder has played all 180 minutes, including Nigeria's exciting 3-3 draw with Sweden on June 8. Previously, Ayinde competed with the Delta Queens of the Nigeria Women's Premier League. In 2014, Ayinde was a member of Nigeria's U-20 Women's National Team that placed second in the U-20 World Cup, falling 1-0 to Germany in the final.

"Ayinde is going to provide us with some additional international experience, she did very well at the U-20 World Cup for Nigeria," said Flash general manager and head coach Aaran Lines. "She's come in and started every game so far in the World Cup for Nigeria who, again, I feel have surprised in one of the most difficult groups."

Ayinde will join the Flash following Nigeria's final game in Canada.

"Ayinde is technically very sound; a good passer of the ball," Lines added. "As an offensive midfielder, she has the ability to engage into the attack and give us a really good option down the spine of our team. I think she's going to add a real bit of quality to our roster. We're excited to have her."

Fans are invited to attend the Flash's viewing party for USA vs. Nigeria on Tuesday night, hosted at Marshall Street Bar & Grill (81 Marshall Street, Rochester, NY 14607). For more details, click here.
