Flame Signs Tremaine Fowlkes

Fort Myers, Fla., January 5, 2005 – The Florida Flame have acquired former All-NBDL First Team forward Tremaine Fowlkes from the National Basketball Development League player pool, according to an announcement today by NBDL director of basketball operations Chris Alpert and Flame Head Coach Dennis Johnson. The Flame also waived forward DeAngelo Collins.

"Tremaine is a great shooter and rebounder, and will help assist in the development of our young players on the team," said Head Coach Dennis Johnson. "I coached Tremaine out in Los Angeles with the Clippers and he is a leader both on and off the court."

Fowlkes, an All-NBDL First Team selection during the 2001-02 season for the Columbus Riverdragons, played in 42 games averaging 16.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 31.8 minutes per game with Columbus.

Fowlkes was one of the GATORADE Call-ups when he signed two consecutive 10-day contracts by the Los Angeles Clippers on February 23, 2002. He then signed a contract to finish out the remainder of the 2001-02 season. For the Clippers, Fowlkes averaged 3.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 15.6 minutes in 22 games played (17 starts).

Fowlkes was then signed as a free agent by the Clippers for the following season where he played in 37 games (10 starts), averaging 4.4 points and 2.8 rebounds in 15.5 minutes of action. He then signed a free agent contract with the 2004 NBA Champion Detroit Pistons in 2003-04 where he played in 36 games averaging 1.2 points and 1.5 rebounds.

He was released by the Indiana Pacers after playing in eight games this season.
