Port Huron Flags News Release

(PORT HURON, MICH.) - On Monday, Oct. 2, Flags tryout hopefuls will hit the ice at McMorran Arena, in hopes of making the final roster for Head Coach Stan Drulia and Assistant Jeff Blum.

The players report on Saturday, Sept. 30 for a team meeting, followed up the next morning with physical check-ups, administered by team doctors. Trainer Troy Azougu will oversee all off-ice conditioning throughout the duration of camp.

Drulia plans to run an extensive program during the first week, including two-a-day practices, with the players split into two groups to alternate between on-ice practice and separate conditioning drills. Azuogu will focus on strength training and explosive step movements through non-weighted drills and plyometrics.

During pre-season competition, Drulia plans to play a lot of the rookies and younger guys. On Wednesday, Oct. 4, the Flags will travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. to compete in the first exhibition game of the season against the Komets. Friday, Oct. 6 takes the team to Flint to face off against the Generals, and then Port Huron will host the cross-town rivals at McMorran on Saturday, Oct. 7.

"I'm hoping for a couple surprises," said Drulia. "As a coach, you want to have tough decisions to make, because it raises the level of competitiveness and you know you're seeing the best of the players."

By Sunday, Oct. 8, Drulia and Blum will make their final decisions and set the roster for the regular season. On Monday, Oct. 9, the team players will participate in the Flags Annual Golf Outing held at the Elks golf course. For more information on the outing, contact the Flags office at (810) 982-3524 (FLAG).
