
Five Sockers Players Selected By Monterrey, St. Louis In Expansion Draft

San Diego, Calif. - The San Diego Sockers lost three players from their active roster and two from their inactive roster for a total of five players in this week's MISL expansion draft. The draft took place Monday afternoon via conference call in order to fill the rosters for the expansion St. Louis Steamers and the yet-named Monterrey franchises. Monterrey selected forward Aaron Susi in the sixth round, defender Alejandro Cardenas in the seventh round and forward Anthony Farace in the eighth round. Inactive players Sterling Westcott and David Trout went to St. Louis and Monterrey in the eighth and ninth rounds, respectively.
Susi was a two-year member of the Sockers franchise. In 2002-03, the San Diego native totaled 35 points, despite being out six games with a knee injury.. Prior to his time in San Diego, Susi played for the Wichita Wings (2000-01), the St. Louis Ambush (1998-2000) and the Arizona Sandsharks (1997). He also played collegiate soccer at San Diego State University.
Cardenas was the team captain from the team's return in 2001 until their playoff loss to the Kansas City Comets in 2003. He finished the 2002-03 MISL season with 41 points and 27 blocks. Cardenas played for the Monterrey La Raza five seasons in his nine-year career.
Farace scored 20 points in 19 games played in the 2002-03 MISL season. He scored the Sockers' first three-point goal and hit a career-high four goals on five shots against the Baltimore Blast on December 21. The two-year veteran for the Sockers, played with the Anaheim Splash in 1996.
Trout is a forward/midfielder that played at the University of Virginia and is currently playing with the Richmond Kickers. Wescott played professionally with the DC United and Utah Freezz. He is currently playing for the Utah Blitzzz of the USL Pro Select League.
