Medford Rogues News Release
MEDFORD, OR - Five Medford Rogues were named to the West Coast League's top prospect list, released by Perfect Game Crosschecker, the nation's largest baseball scouting organization. Of the 40 prospects named, two Rogues were rated in the top 10, with RHP Chad Hockin (Cal State Fullerton) at number six and LHP Justin Jacome (Cal State Santa Barbara) at number nine. Kevin Davidson (1B, Cal State Monterey Bay, #19), A.J. Balta (2B, University of Oregon, #29) and Joe Chavez (SS/OF, UC Riverside, #35) were also among the honored.
"This is an achievement our coaching and recruiting staff is very proud of," Rogues General Manager Chuck Heeman said. "To bring this kind of talent to an expansion team, where college coaches haven't sent players before, really speaks to the quality of our coaching staff. We're proud of our players and of our coaches for their accomplishments this summer and look forward to what 2014 will bring. I know we're well into the recruiting process and have some pretty exciting players already committed."
Hockin, who came to the Rogues days after graduating high school, worked himself into a starting role and compiled a 2-1, 4.69 record in 11 games (five starts). Jacome, a freshman at USCB, arrived in late June and quickly emerged as a star in the WCL, going 1-1, 0.87 in four games (three starts) before an inflamed elbow cut his season short.
Davidson, coming in from his sophomore year, was in the midst of the West Coast League MVP race all season, finishing with a .361 average, five home runs and 33 RBI. Balta, as a 2013 high school graduate, hit .280 in 48 games with 13 RBI and a team-leading 12 stolen bases this summer. A sophomore in 2013, Chavez hit .279 with two home runs, 12 RBI and 10 stolen bases for the Rogues.
Davidson and Jacome were named to the WCL All-Star Team.
