Corvallis Knights News Release
The Corvallis Knights have signed two players with local connections to 10-day contracts for the 2014 season, general manager Bre Kerkvliet announced Thursday.
They are Linfield College sophomore outfielder Jimmy Cleary, a 2012 Corvallis High School graduate, and Lane Community College freshman infielder Ray Ayo, the son of former Crescent Valley coach/Oregon State letterman Keke Ayo.
Cleary is a 5-foot-11, 175-pounder who played on the Linfield JV as a true freshman in 2013. He was the Mid-Willamette Conference Player of the Year and a 5A first-team all-state selection as a CHS senior in 2012. He also played in the Reser's Oregon All-Star Series.
A 5-8, 135-pound second baseman, Ayo graduated from Westview High in 2013 and was a Metro League all-star, a second-team 6A all-state selection, and a Reser's Oregon All-Star Series participant as a senior. He was honorable mention all-Metro League as a junior in 2012.
Ayo's father, Keke, lettered at OSU in 1983-84. He coached Knights' skipper Brooke Knight at CV and led the Raiders to the 1990 Valley League championship and a berth in the 4A playoffs.
Ten-day signees are not guaranteed a roster spot for the entire season, but it's not unusual for them to earn full-time status.
