Five Navigators Partake in NECBL All-Star Game

LYNN - The Eastern Division All-Stars kept the West offense at bay last night in the 2011 NECBL All-Star Game in front of 2,112 in attendance at Fraser Field, the home of the North Shore Navigators. The East struck out 11 total in the ballgame while all but one of the nine pitchers recorded a strikeout.
For the Navigators, Eric Jagielo (Notre Dame) had an RBI groundout in the fifth inning despite a 0-for-3 night. Potential league MVP Dario Pizzano (Columbia) also went hitless but currently leads the NECBL in hitting with a .385 average. The pair of outfielders both started the annual event for the East with Jagielo in the No.3 hole and Pizzano hitting fifth.
Reserve infielder Clinton Harwick (Point Loma Nazarene) went 0-for-1 with a walk in the victory.
On the mound, reliever Miles Landry (Baylor) pitched a scoreless second inning and recorded one strikeout. The sophomore currently has a perfect 0.00 ERA in 20 innings pitched on the season.
Fellow reliever Matt Alvarez (Boston College) also threw a scoreless sixth inning with two strikeouts.
"Overall, it was a good day four our guys, especially our relievers" said general manager Pete Delani. "Alvarez has had great stuff all season long and Landry is a kid who's been dominant despite the fact he's only pitched once in two years in school."
Navigators starter Hunter Rivers (Jacksonville State) was originally scheduled to start for the East, but an injury forced him out of last night's event.
In the East's half of the third, Kyle Johnson (Newport) reached on an error to score Tim Quinn (Laconia) for the game's first run. Brett Mollenhauer's (Sanford) RBI single then plated Jack Reinheimer (Newport) to make it 2-0. Mollenhauer was later named the game MVP in a brief post-game ceremony.
The West managed to get one back in the fifth on an RBI double by Paul McConkey (Holyoke), but it would prove to be the only run scored by the Western All-Stars in the ballgame.
NAVS NOTES: The Navigators are off today before traveling to New Bedford and Old Orchard on Friday and Saturday. They return home on Sunday night for a 6:15 p.m. matchup with the Laconia Muskrats.
