October 9, 2003 - NBA G League (G League)
Charleston Lowgators News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (October 9, 2003) â The North Charleston Lowgators of the National Basketball Development League have five former players competing for roster spots on five different NBA teams. Tierre Brown, Damone Brown, Peter Cornell, Ime Udoka and Galen Young are all getting a look by the NBA during the preseason.
Tierre Brown, the Lowgators offensive catalyst last season, is vying for a point guard job with the Atlanta Hawks. Damone Brown is in camp with the New Jersey Nets. Peter Cornell has played well in his first two games with the Houston Rockets. Ime Udoka is looking to capitalize on an opportunity from the Los Angeles Lakers, while Galen Young is looking for a spot with the Seattle Supersonics.
"All five of those players are very good and have the ability to play in the NBA," Lowgators head coach Doug Marty said. "It is nice to see the Lowgators are well represented in the NBA preseason."
Both Tierre and Damone were in the NBA in 2001-2002 and both were called up last year after starting the season in North Charleston. Udoka, Cornell and Young have never played in an NBA regular season game but have been in camp before.
The NBDL has a total of 35 players on NBA training camp rosters, marking a high-water mark for players in camp since the NBA's minor league began play.
The Lowgators NBDL season begins on November 28th at home against the Roanoke Dazzle. The team will hold local tryouts on October 25 and 26 at Sterett Hall. For more information log on to www.northcharlestonlowgators.com or call (843) 460-1000.
