Five Brahma Players Head to AHL Training Camps

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (September 23)- As the fall begins, as does the 2011-12 season for the Texas Brahmas of the Central Hockey League (CHL). On that note, the Brahmas announced that five Brahmas players received the opportunity to attend HL training camps in San Antonio and Oklahoma City.

Attending camp with the San Antonio Rampage is winger Jordan Kary. Kary is a recent Cornell University forward who registered 13 points (5 G, 8 A) in 53 games. The Wetaskiwin, ALTA native will size up well for the Brahmas this season standing at 6-foot-5, and 200 pounds.

The Brahmas are sending defensemen Jim Burichin and Brock Meadows and forwards Phil Fox and Matt Wallace to the Oklahoma City Baron's camp. Jim Burichin joins the Brahmas for his second season following a shortened season due to injury in the purple and black last year. Brock Meadows, a graduate of Robert Morris University, compiled 24 points (6 G, 18 A) and 84 penalty minutes in 121 collegiate games. At 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, Meadows is expected to keep the blueline steady for the Brahmas this season.

Phil Fox, the eighth announced player for Texas' 2011-12 roster, was captain at Northern Michigan last season and has a reputation for having the scorer's touch. Matt Wallace, will begin his rookie campaign with Texas following a lucrative career at Hobart College, where he led the team in scoring his senior year, averaging over a point a game (16 G, 12 A). In his junior season, he was named the ECAC West ALL-USCHO second team and was elected the ECAC West Rookie of the Year and nominated on the All-Rookie Team in 2007-08.

Brahmas Head Coach, Dan Wildfong is encouraged at the departure of his players to attend AHL camps on Monday, September 26.

"This is a great opportunity for these guys, and well deserved. With their hard work and determination they will be able to see hockey at the next level and know what it takes to get there," said Wildfong.

GOLFING WITH THE BRAHMAS: The Brahmas will be hitting the greens before taking to the ice next month as they host their annual Fall Golf Tournament Sunday, October 9 at the Resort at Eagle Mountain for a 1 pm shotgun start.
