Philadelphia Barrage News Release

Philadelphia, PA (June 17, 2005) - The Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier outdoor lacrosse league, would like to congratulate Ryan Boyle (A), Roy Colsey (M), Doug Shanahan (M), Matt Striebel (M) and Kyle Sweeney (D) of the Barrage for making the 2006 U.S. Men's Lacrosse Teams.

Boyle, Colsey, Shanahan, Striebel and Sweeney were among 120 lacrosse players that tried out for the team at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. The tryouts were by invitation only and lasted for four days at UMBC starting Monday, June 13 and ending Thursday, June 16. The U.S. team will compete in the International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) World Championships from July 13-22, 2006 in London, Ontario, Canada. The U.S. has won eight out of nine ILF Championships contested, including winning six of them in a row. On this year's team, there are 10 former U.S. players, seven from the 2002 team, including Boyle, Shanahan and Striebel, and three from the 1998 team. Twenty-one of the 23 players on the roster are current MLL players. Boyle, Colsey, Shanahan, Striebel and Sweeney will join up with some of the greatest players in the country including Jay Jalbert of Long Island, Mikey Powell and Trevor Tierney of Baltimore, Casey and Ryan Powell of Rochester and Kyle Harrison of New Jersey, which represent the United States.

"(The biggest strength is) the ability of the players to get up and down the field," said head coach John Desko. "So many of them are so versatile.

Two or three of the attackmen can probably play midfield to give us more depth there. With this many talented players, the trick will be somewhat chemistry and getting to play as a team."

With all the talent on the 2006 U.S. team, they are looking ahead to another victory in July 2006.

The Barrage see game action tomorrow, June 18 against the New Jersey Pride at Kean University in Union, NJ at 7:30 p.m. The Barrage return home to Villanova on July 14 against the Rochester Rattlers. Tickets are still available by calling the Barrage ticket office at (610) 355-8999 or visiting TicketMaster.com.
