
Boston defeats Lizards to keep First Place in American Division

Boston, MA -- The Boston Cannons defeated the Long Island Lizards, 20-14, in front of 5,867 fans at Nickerson Field on the campus of Boston University on Saturday evening. The Lizards trailed 12-10 heading into the fourth quarter, but Boston went on a run to put Long Island away. Kevin Leveille was named Bud Light MVP, as he tied a team record with seven goals and added one assist.
Long Island scored the first two goals of the game on shots by Jay Jalbert and Matt Panetta, but boston scored five straight goals to take a lead they would never relinquish as the Lizards were held scoreless for the next 14:40. Long Island battled back and kept within striking distance to cut the score to 8-7 at halftime.
Chris Massey scored his second goal of the game to tie the game at 8-8, however, Mike Battista scored a two-point goal to put Boston up 10-8, and the Cannons scored two more to take a 12-8 lead.
Jay Jalbert led the Lizards with three goals and one assist, including a two-point goal. Chris Massey (2 goals, 1 assist), Tim Goettelmann (1 goal, two assists), A.J. Haugen (2 goals) and Matt Panetta (2 goals) also scored for the Lizards. Greg Cattrano recorded 14 saves in his first game back from injury.
The Lizards (2-2) host the Philadelphia Barrage next Saturday at Mitchel Athletic Complex. Faceoff is slated for 7:00 PM.
