Worcester, MA -The MIAA and Worcester Bravehearts have announced that Fitton Field will be the host of the Massachusetts High School State Baseball Semifinals and Finals. The two State Semi-Final games will take place on Tuesday, June 14, while two Championship games will be played on Saturday, June 18. This will be the first time since 2018 that Fitton Field plays host to the MIAA State Finals.
"The MIAA and the School Districts across the state are excited to have many of the finest baseball stadiums hosting our MIAA Baseball Tournament Semi-Finals and Finals, said MIAA Baseball Tournament Director Dave Lezenski. "It is only fitting that the best facilities be paired with the best student-athletes to compete for the MIAA Baseball Championships."
The Bravehearts are no stranger to hosting championship tournaments, as the MIAA State Finals were held at Fitton Field for five consecutive years from 2014 through 2018. The Northeast Regional American Legion Baseball Tournament has also been held at Fitton Field every year since 2017 outside of the cancelled 2020 season.
In 2015, Worcester's own Saint Peter Marian advanced to the State Championship held at Fitton Field against Norwood. The game ultimately featured three future Bravehearts in SPM's PJ Barry, Pat Gallagher and Norwood's Sean Mellen who currently is progressing through the Toronto Blue Jays farm system.
"We are absolutely thrilled to announce the MIAA State Tournament will return to Fitton Field this Summer," said Bravehearts GM Dave Peterson. "We always look forward to watching these athletes play in the biggest games of their young careers, and we hope to deliver an unforgettable experience for them."
The Worcester Bravehearts have had a history of MIAA State Finalists joining their team in recent seasons. This season, the Bravehearts roster two members of the 2018 State Finalist Saint Peter Marian team in Kosta Drosidis and Frankie Hernandez Jr. Former Bravehearts who have competed in MIAA State Championship games include former Shrewsbury star Jon West, and former Saint John's stars Jake Hamel, Jack Gardner, Tyler Mudd, Matt Stansky and Carsen Hauben.
The Worcester Bravehearts plan to roll out the red carpet for the State-Finalist student athletes, as they prepare for these games just as they would for their own playoff games.
"We want these student athletes to enjoy elite treatment," said Bravehearts Director of Fan Experience & Media Donny Porcaro Jr. "We are bringing out our full game day crew. There will be walk-up music, great food and a welcoming staff to greet fans. We want to create a championship atmosphere for the athletes, as well as their friends and family.
While the Bravehearts will be on the road both dates of the MIAA games, the team expects former Bravehearts to be in attendance, as well as team representatives focused on finding the next great Worcester Bravehearts star.
