Fisher Cat Wins Home Run Derby; All-Star Game Postponed

Norwich, CT - Fisher Cats shortstop Sergio Santos led his seven rivals with 6 home runs in the first round of home run derby, then defeated Binghamton's Caleb Stewart in the final round 3-2 to capture the event at a packed Dodd Stadium in Norwich Wednesday night.

Santos, who won a tractor and two airline tickets as the first place prize, is currently second in the Eastern League with 15 home runs.

The All-Star game started in a dense fog, and was called in the top of the third inning after the South had tied the game at 2-2. Santos had reached on an infield single in the first inning for the North. Rob Cosby tripled and scored on Robinzon Diaz' groundout in the second. Aaron Mathews and Tracy Thorpe also represented New Hampshire at the game.

New Hampshire will host the 2008 All-Star Game at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

The Fisher Cats, currently in second place in the Northern Division of the Eastern League, opens a series Thursday night at Trenton, the Northern Division leaders. LHP Ricky Romero (0-2, 4.15) goes for New Hampshire against Thunder RHP Ian Kennedy (5-1, 2.43). Game time is 7:05pm Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network (610-AM, Manchester; 930-AM, Rochester; 1540-AM, Exeter) with Bob Lipman.

The Fisher Cats will return home to Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Monday night to open a series with Portland. On Monday, the first 2,000 fans will receive the New Britain Mo Vaughn bobblehead presented by Grappone.
