Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
DUNEDIN, Fla. - The Fort Myers Miracle (24-21) used a season-high 13 runs to take the opening game against the Dunedin Blue Jays (24-21). RHP David Fischer (W, 3-2) struck out rehabbers Josh Donaldson and Troy Tulowitzki three times en route to a 13-6 win.
Fort Myers blasted Jays' starter RHP TJ Zeuch (L, 3-2) for eight runs on ten hits over the second and third innings alone. The second inning started with Zander Wiel's fifth home run of the season. The frame proved difficult for Dunedin and Josh Donaldson who fought the sun at third base. Two high choppers forced Donaldson to shield his eyes from the sun, resulting in singles. The second one off the bat of Max Murphy allowed two runs to score. Bradley strong capped the second with an RBI-double off the top of the right field wall to make it a 5-0 game.
In the third, the Miracle continued to pile it on with three more runs. Daniel Kihle drive in two with a single, and Murphy brought in another tally with a fielder's choice groundout.
Fischer had not allowed a hit until the fifth inning. In the first, he plunked Donaldson with the first pitch he threw but came back and struck out the Major Leaguer looking with a fastball in the third.
Pitching with an 8-0 lead, Fischer had to battle in the fifth with the bases loaded and one out. The righty walked Max Pentecost to bring up Donaldson for a third time. Fischer proceeded to catch the 2015 AL MVP looking with another fastball followed by a swinging strikeout of Tulowitzki.
Murphy tied a career high with four RBI on the night which is also a season high for a Miracle hitter. Fort Myers also displayed patience by drawing a season-high ten walks. Kevin Garcia and Sean Miller each collected a pair of runs on their way to three-hit nights.
Lefties duel in game two of the four game series with LHP Lachlan Wells against LHP Ryan Borucki. First pitch is set for 6:30 PM ET.
