Edinburg Coyotes News Release
Edinburg, TX - The Edinburg Coyotes of United League Baseball (ULB) and Field Manager Vince Moore announced today that they have re-signed several players for the upcoming 2007 season. Players returning include, LHP Bric Steed, RHP Julio Castro, RHP Adam Clay, OF Nick Aranda, and OF Eric Gonzalez. More player announcements are expected within the coming days including more returnees.
"We are glad we can bring a good nucleus of guys back from last year's squad," Field Manager Vince Moore said." "We were just two games away last year so bringing back some key guys and adding to them will help us get over than hump and bring a championship to Edinburg."
Right fielder Eric Gonzalez, a La Feria native is the lone Rio Grande Valley product currently under contract. Gonzalez returns for his seventh professional season, all with Edinburg Professional Baseball Clubs. (2001-2005 Edinburg Roadrunners, 2006 Edinburg Coyotes). In 2006 Gonzalez tied his career high for RBIs with 53, while hitting .283 with 4 homers and 22 doubles. Gonzalez has a knack for getting hit by pitches; he set a career high with 23 hbp last year.
The 2006 ERA champion Bric Steed returns for his second season in Edinburg after helping lead the charge for the Coyotes pitching staff in their inaugural season. Steed went 8-4 with a 3.61 ERA in his first season as a full time starter. The former UTA Maverick will be penciled in as the clubs number three starter in the rotation.
Adam Clay and Julio Castro are the strongest pillars of the Coyotes bullpen for 2007. Castro will be penciled in to replace former closer Kelly Casares who was traded to the Sioux Falls Canaries of the Northern League in the off-season. Clay will likely set up Castro in the eighth inning. Clay, the lone 2006 All-Star for the RGV Whitewings in 2006, was acquired late in the season to solidify the Coyotes bullpen and will be asked to do the same in 2007.
