Coyotes Take Over First Place with 12-2 Victory Over \'Wings

Edinburg, TX; June 9, 2007- The Coyotes overcame 15 consecutive scoreless innings against San Angelo pitching since the start of the series and as the old adage goes you should never wake a sleeping giant. The Coyotes pounded out a season high 19 hits en-route to a 10-4 victory over the San Angelo Colts on Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The win helps the Coyotes keep pace with first place Rio Grande Valley at a ½ game back.

Edinburg's offense set a new season high for hits just two days after raising their season high to 17. Edinburg rallied back from down 4-0 in the fifth. Third baseman Eric Gonzalez singled for his first of three hits to lead off the fifth inning rally. After a Patrick Gaylord single, Nelson Teilon doubled to the gap in left center to finally put the Coyotes on the scoreboard at 4-1. The Coyotes scored their second run on an RBI ground out to second by Luis Espinosa. Rodney Medina drove in the third Edinburg run on RBI single of his own. Two batters later Nick Aranda slugged his fourth triple of the season to the gap in right center, scoring Medina and tying the game at 4-4.

Edinburg took the lead for good in the sixth receiving RBI hits from Teilon, Espinosa, and Eddie Wilson. Giving the Coyotes an 8-4 lead. Edinburg scored two additional runs in the seventh to seal the victory. Edinburg had five players with multi-hit games including four hit nights from Patrick Gaylord and Nelson Teilon.

Andy Noonan earned the victory in relief of Coyotes starter Bric Steed. Noonan (2-0) relieved Steed in the sixth and pitched 1.1 innings allowing only one hit and striking out one. San Angelo starter Brian Henchel was not sharp in his last few innings. Henschel (4-2), was struck for 13 hits and 7 earned runs while striking out five.

The Coyotes finish their series and home stand on Sunday night against San Angelo. Brian Heaston, (1-0) gets the start for Edinburg while San Angelo counters with Daryl Roque (0-4).

The Edinburg Coyotes are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas and Louisiana. The United League in its second season with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Laredo, Harlingen, and San Angelo, Texas; and Alexandria, Louisiana. The ULB will play a 100-game schedule between May and August 2007. The 2007 ULB All-Star Game is July 11th in Amarillo, TX.
