First Nations Culture Honoured as Warriors Host First Nations Celebration Night on March 1, Presented by Td

As the NLL regular season just passes the midway point for the Vancouver Warriors, the team has built a strong foundation on which to finish the season on a high note. Off the floor, the Warriors have placed an emphasis on community, hosting five theme nights so far this season. Taking responsibility for fostering healthy relationships with those around the team and making connections to those inside and out of the lacrosse community is something the organization takes very seriously, with theme nights highlighting the efforts being made.

The responsibility and accountability that the Warriors strive to embody begins with Truth and Reconciliation. Friday, March 1 will see the team host its third annual First Nations Celebration Night, presented by TD. The Warriors are committed to strengthening their connections within the community across the Lower Mainland and British Columbia, and this starts with the land that is underneath their feet.

The unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations make up the land where the Warriors' community live, work and thrive. The evening will focus on these Indigenous communities and honouring their contributions to the history and future of British Columbia.

Prior to the game, Chief Wayne Sparrow from the Musqueam Nation, Councillor Wilson Williams from the Squamish Nation, and Chief Jan Thomas from the Tsleil-Waututh Nation will be on the floor for a pre-game ceremony, land acknowledgement, and ceremonial ball drop. Hayley Wallis from Kitasoo xais xais Nation will also be singing the Canadian and American National Anthems. There will also be a performance of the Coast Salish anthem.

The night will feature a celebration of First Nations culture, with players wearing Every Child Matters t-shirt during warmup, coaches and management wearing special Every Child Matters pins, performances by DJ O Show, limited sales of Every Child Matters t-shirts, and more! The Indian Residential School Survivors Society will also be located in Community Corner at Section 111, as well as the BC Lacrosse Association and Nicola Valley Institute of Technology.

As the sponsor of the evening, TD will also be giving away foam fingers for the first 2,500 fans to arrive at the game!

Post-game, there will be an autograph session at Section 119 featuring Riley Loewen, Brayden Laity, Kevin Crowley, Matt Beers, and Aaron Bold.
